Bike-oween, halloween critical mass y more
Posted on 4:25 PM by Unknown

Goodwill's Bike-oween
This year's theme is bike-oween. Not sure if that has been a previous promotion on windows at Goodwills, but the DIY+wallet-friendly is the way to go.
The one located on Van Ness +Mission is in full bike-mode. These bike-oween window ads have been up for a few days, I hadn't been off the bus to snap some fotos, but had the chance today:

Calacas are also Giants fans and ready to join the big Critical Mass halloween ride tonight.
This is also a Goodwill, on Fillmore+Post:

7x7
On the flip-side, this local magazine's blog has some links to buy new stuff ranging from h+m to jcrew. I have never been to an h+m and that's OK. I think the little custome-collage post they did was pretty cute: Look of the Week: Pee-wee Herman Halloween Costume for Him and Her
For the Castro-banned halloween party generations, 7x7 also has some event-guide post with some local festivities: Where to Dress Up, Party, and Get Down This Halloween
SF fun cheap is the ultimate guide to everything, fun and cheap.
This Saturday there is SF's local brewery Speakeasy’s 2012 Haunted Halloween Party in the Bayview, Michael Jackson thriller zombie dance-off in Oakland,
Critical Mass
Halloween is one of the best masses of the year as you get to see everyone and their alter ego out +about. Well, that could actually be year-round because it is San Francisco after all :)
Meets every last-Friday, 530PM on @Justin Herman Plaza.

The Friday/Critical Mass in 2009 was super fun :)

Los pumpkins
Posted on 10:03 AM by Unknown

Gimme a pumpkin
The last week in October is completely orange.
Halloween-theme events, sportsfans and locals are in good spirits as the San Francisco Giants are 2-0 vs the Detroit Tigers in the MLB World series.
Weather has been extremely nice with a bit of rain, some crazy beautiful skies lately. I have been walking a lot and something there is almost a secret sidewalk language about decorated pumpkins. They are kind of funny.
Two years ago days before the 2010 World series begun, my friend Diana and I were walking back to work from lunch when truck with a bunch of pumpkins in the back almost ran us over, so we ended up biggest pumpkin...
So, we decorated it and called it el wilson shrine gigante or something like that. She recently an image as a remember when, made me smile :)

Half Moon Bay Pumpin Festival 2012
This world-famous festival is super fun. I was so happy my GF Muffin and I got to attend this year, the weather was fantastic. My favorite part of it was the pumpkin-flavored beer. Sounds weird but it wasn't as sweet as I had initially imagined, which is good for a sunny day in the mid-70s°F. Mid-October, yes that sun felt great for once. It is California after all..

Proud adult moments. Tasted the Harvest Moon pumpkin ale, pretty good.

Pumpkin bread +pie. Ate them both like a chammp (not the same day though..)

Familiar faces.
**The pumpkin patches (their decorations are beyond cute) between the west end of Highway 92 +Half Moon Bay are pretty awesome, we didn't stop but we are tempted to go back before October ends.
I have found the official Half Moon Bay pumpkin patch map! Here: Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Patches and Local Area Farms

via mashSF:
We are receiving late news that our friend Kachusha Munkanita is in need of legal support. He is one of the most peaceful people we have met, so when a story was published about his arrest, the bike community took notice. In short, he was arrested for watching 3 young people being arrested in the Mission, and wanting advocate for their safety.
The least we can do is help gather resources for when he needs them. We are offering our Histogram Cap, with 100% of the profit (about $7 each)

Brian Wilson's orange mani+pedi
If you are wondering what the bearded dude's toe nails look like, look no further...
He not only rides all over the city in that silly scooter but also gets his mani-pedi in the northside of town (toes alert). Read all about it here:
+ Brian Wilson and his orange-and-black manicure: mani and pedi via BayAreaSportsGuyHere is a recent photo the said scooter, sent it by a very dear-friend of Bikes and the City:
+ Other Giants ride unicorns, of course. Posted on one of my GF's FBwall, she is the biggest Giant fan.
+ Speaking of the glitter y unicrons, my amiga Diana went to a game last week and sent some fotos in. She met these crafty ladies from Daly City selling some neat cositas, you can find them on Facebook:

+ Does his beard have its own twitter account yet? You can look like Wilson, or Romo:
+ And speaking of beards, Romo's beard inspired local illustrator John Sherlock Hersey, and his calaca design for "Dia de los Gigantes" is featured on the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle today, the online article is here via sfgate: A head start with Dia de los Gigantes by Meredith May.
+ Long-time reader tamagosan took this gorgeous photo from the mighty Giants bike valet parking and tweeted "Bikes, boats and baseball." Look at that gorgeous view, super!:

Where will you be watching the game tonight?
Anyways, game is Today: STL in SF. Game is at 5PM PST
Which means a lot of people leaving early from work...

This reminds of being 16, headphones and a walkman permanently attached to my body included. Saw this video awhile ago, but it has been a good early AM soundtrack to french press making.Rolling Stones
I'd pretty much like to be in either Jersey or NYC for this. kthx.
Joy Division
It was great to learn many of these things in Design classes (and much more history appropriation facts) and here is a sweet video with iconic Brit designer Peter Saville (also has done designs/covers for New Order, PSB, Pulp and many others)

Adanowsky
When I first heard this song, think I played it about 8 times in a row. I'm liking this Adanowsky guy.
"Adanowsky's big time in our books -- he's an international playboy, he's buddies with Devendra Barnhart, and his dad is cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky. So when we asked him if he'd do our first installment of rock star karaoke, with a bit of a humorous homage to a Serge Gainsbourg video, we weren't sure he'd be totally down. Not so. He got way into it, and even his pratfall was top-notch. Now that's some professional business."

Pink October
Posted on 3:44 PM by Unknown

/Fillmore street 2012
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to participate I'll wear my pink jacket more often for the remaining of this month. I have not worn pink in quite sometime and I think it is time to reach into my closet for my favorite pink piece of clothing.

Ft. Mason /July 2008

Amanda's power legs, Panhandle /November 2009

North Beach /September 2010
+ The pink corduroy jacket
Yes, it is as awesome in real life as it sounds. I've had it for quite some time and it represents almost a decade of a growth that feels like centuries in which I have endured life's extreme ups and downs and continue to gain so much perspective.

/ Japantown, Dec. 2010
During the last quarter of the year I often look for this jacket to bring back a forgotten spark, to remember young love, forget adult challenges and get back to explorer mode whether that is getting back to drawing typefaces entirely by hand, finding a new coffee spot or revisiting a memory lane full of endless sunsets in the Sea of Cortez.
